Nestled at an altitude of 1,550 metres in the heart of the Maurienne Valley, Le Corbier is part of the Les Sybelles® ski area. A so-called third-generation resort, it is 100% ski-in/ski-out, 100% pedestrian-friendly, easy to access and designed to offer visitors safety and peace of mind, notably thanks to its covered shopping gallery connecting the upper and lower parts of the resort.
Since its creation in 1967, Le Corbier has established itself as a true family destination. With facilities and services tailored to families, the resort has been awarded the Famille Plus label.
Le Corbier also has a lesser-known sporty side, with 6 trail-running routes, mountain bike trails (downhill trails, e-MTB routes and a mini bike park), a freeride area and technical ski runs such as the Jean-Noël Augert.

Built from scratch in the municipality of Villarembert during the 1960s, Le Corbier was born from a simple ambition: to boost the local economy.
At the time, Mayor Clément Duverney-Guichard, together with a small group of elected representatives, residents and businesses, rolled up their sleeves to imagine and build a brand-new ski resort.
The first work began in 1966: construction of a road and ski slopes, infrastructure and ski lifts, as well as water and electricity networks. Not forgetting the Tourist Office, known as “Le Tripode”, whose striking pyramid shape remains just as surprising today!
The resort was built very quickly and officially opened on 31 December 1967, in the presence of celebrities such as Françoise Hardy and Robert Hossein, who came to wish the new resort a long and successful future.
In Le Corbier, you can walk from Altaïr to Soyouz and Antarès… while keeping your feet firmly on the ground!
In a distinctive feature of the resort, its buildings bear names inspired by the space age. They were created in 1969, a pivotal year in the space race and the year Neil Armstrong first set foot on the Moon.
Designed from the outset as a family resort, Le Corbier was one of the first third-generation ski resorts, where everything could be accessed on skis.
In 1969, its architects designed a snow front shared by pedestrians and skiers, car parks located below the resort to keep vehicles away from the centre, and buildings connected by covered shopping galleries. Their names were inspired by the space exploration that dominated the news at the time.
Cosmos, Baïkonour, Zodiak, Vostok and Ariane are therefore all reminders of both the past and the future!
Today, skiing between Le Corbier and La Toussuire is quick and easy. But until the 1980s, the two resorts had not yet connected their ski areas. Only a three-kilometre road linked them.
The idea of connecting the two resorts to offer visitors a larger ski area became a reality in 1986 with the creation of a ski link. This gave birth to the “Grand Large” ski area, already paving the way for what would later become Les Sybelles.
In the early 2000s, Le Corbier took another major step towards offering an extensive skiing experience by joining forces with five other resorts: La Toussuire, Saint-Sorlin-d’Arves, Saint-Jean-d’Arves, Saint-Colomban-des-Villards and Les Bottières.
Together, they formed the Les Sybelles ski area.
Behind this ambitious project was former baker Gaston Maulin, already the majority shareholder in the ski lift companies. His dream was to create a vast ski area connecting all six resorts via the summit of Ouillon at 2,431 metres.
That dream became reality on 13 December 2003, when Les Sybelles officially opened. At the time, it was the largest ski area in the Maurienne Valley, offering 310 km of slopes and reaching an altitude of 2,620 metres.
Ten years after the creation of Les Sybelles, Gaston Maulin’s dream had become a genuine success.
To celebrate the anniversary, three days of festivities were organised in January 2014, including the “Sybelles Glisse”, a sporting and charity ski challenge, a free concert by singer Amel Bent on the snow front in Saint-Jean-d’Arves, a torchlight descent and a spectacular fireworks display.
To mark the anniversary permanently, a totem was installed at the Pointe de l’Ouillon, the meeting point of the six resorts. It has six sides – one for each resort – displaying highlights and practical information about each destination.
In 2016, as Le Corbier prepared to celebrate its 50th anniversary, a €30 million investment programme was launched over four years (2016–2020) to improve comfort, safety and efficiency throughout the ski area.
A new secure beginner area was created behind the Tourist Office. Fully enclosed so that beginners could learn with confidence, it included a button lift and two magic carpets, one of which also provided access to a sledging slope.
Two new chairlifts were also built: Voie Lactée, a six-seater detachable chairlift in the lower part of the resort providing easier access to the intermediate Plateau de la Verne sector, and Ourson, a fixed four-seater chairlift dedicated entirely to beginners.
The snowmaking network was also strengthened and improved to ensure excellent skiing conditions.
With its sights firmly set on the future, Le Corbier celebrated its 50th anniversary on 27 December 2017 and remains committed to reinventing and modernising itself for the decades to come.
